How to Prevent Bed Wetting in Children

Posted by Dr Prahallad Panda on 8:59 PM Comments

It is common in younger children up to to 3 to 4 years of age to wet bed at night. Sometimes older children also do the same. Commonly this is seen as there is no bladder control that is acquired as the central nervous system matures.

Most of the times, it is without any organic cause. Bed wetting may be seen in children with neurological deficits of various nature.
Many times the parents denounce them and do not hesitate to abuse, even in presence of relatives and neighbors. That makes the things worse.
The better way to tackle it is, by;

  • Not abusing the child.
  • Not giving the child any beverages like tea or coffee.
  • Restricting fluid intake after the night meal and at least one hour before sleeping.
  • Encouraging the child to go to toilet before sleeping.
  • Arousing the child at night sometime toward the time of bed wetting and taking him/her to toilet
  • Praising the child for bed wetting free day
  • These simple practices are needed to tackle the situation.
